Frequently Asked Questions

Everything patients ask us most, organised by topic. Can't find your answer? Reach out and we'll respond directly.

🌐 General
Is treatment in India safe for international patients? +
Absolutely. All our partner hospitals are JCI and/or NABH accredited — the same international standard used in the US and Europe. Our network treats patients from 65+ countries annually.
Do you cover all types of treatment, or only specific ones? +
All major specialties — cardiac, orthopedic, oncology, neuro, transplant, fertility, cosmetic, gastro, urology, ophthalmology and more. If your condition isn't listed, submit your reports and we'll match you to the right specialist.
Does Medova charge any fees? +
Medova charges absolutely zero fee to the patient. Our service is completely free to you. We receive a service fee from our partner hospitals, which does not affect your treatment cost at all.
How is Medova different from contacting a hospital directly? +
We review your case across our entire network of 25+ hospitals and 150+ specialists to match you with the right fit — not just one hospital's own recommendation — and coordinate every logistical step for free.
🩺 Treatment & Doctors
How quickly can treatment begin? +
You receive a specialist opinion within 24 hours of submitting reports and a cost estimate within 48 hours. Most patients begin treatment within 2–3 weeks of their first enquiry, including travel time.
Are Indian specialists as qualified as doctors in the USA or UK? +
Many of India's senior specialists completed fellowship training at Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins and the Royal Marsden. The same FDA-approved drugs and Da Vinci robotic systems are used — at a fraction of the price.
Can I choose my own hospital or doctor? +
Yes. If you have a preferred hospital or specialist in mind, let us know and we'll coordinate directly with them. Otherwise, we'll recommend the best fit based on your case.
What if I need a second opinion after my first consultation? +
You're welcome to request a second opinion from another specialist in our network at any point, at no additional cost.
💵 Cost & Payment
What is included in the treatment cost estimate? +
Our estimates include hospital stay, surgeon/specialist fees, anaesthesia, standard investigations, medications, nursing care and meals. They exclude international airfare, travel insurance and personal expenses.
How do I pay for treatment? +
Treatment costs are paid directly to the hospital, typically a deposit before admission and the balance during your stay. Most hospitals accept international cards and bank transfers.
Will there be any hidden costs? +
No. Your written cost estimate is itemised and confirmed before you travel. If your treatment plan changes once you're in India (based on updated diagnostics), the hospital will discuss any cost changes with you directly before proceeding.
Does travel insurance cover treatment in India? +
This varies by policy and insurer. We recommend checking with your provider — our visa guide and travel articles on the blog cover this in more detail.
✈️ Visa & Travel
Do I need a special visa to receive treatment in India? +
India offers a dedicated Medical Visa for international patients — valid for up to 1 year with multiple entries. We provide the official hospital invitation letter required for your application at no cost.
Can a family member or caregiver travel with me? +
Yes. India's Medical Attendant Visa allows one or two family members to accompany you. We arrange accommodation near the hospital, and our partner hospitals have international patient lounges with family support services.
What if I don't speak English or Hindi? +
Our partner hospitals have interpreter services for major languages. Let your coordinator know your preferred language when you submit your case.
How long will I need to stay in India? +
This depends on your procedure — anywhere from a few days for minor procedures to 4–6 weeks for major surgery. Your treatment plan will include a specific recommended stay.
🛡️ Safety & Quality
What accreditations do your partner hospitals hold? +
Our network includes JCI (Joint Commission International), NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) and NABL (testing labs) accredited facilities — independently verified, not self-declared.
Is my medical information kept confidential? +
Yes. Your medical information is handled with strict privacy safeguards and shared only with the treating hospital and specialist you're matched with. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What happens if there's a complication after I return home? +
Your treating hospital provides telemedicine follow-up, and your coordinator remains your point of contact. We also provide a discharge summary formatted for your local doctor to review.
How do you vet hospitals before adding them to your network? +
Every partner hospital is reviewed for accreditation status, international patient infrastructure and specialty outcomes before being added to our network.
